Spring socks

Plain toe-up socks

I've finished knitting my second pair of plain, toe up socks. I don't think that I've quite gotten the hang of doing a short row heel, and I'm not sure I ever will, I find them a bit fiddly. The good part is, once you're done the heel, there's no more fussing with increases or decreases, just plain knitting. In a fun and cheerful yarn sometimes that's all I feel like doing, knitting endless spirals of stockinette.

To be perfectly honest, though these are cute socks, the real reason I bought this yarn is because I thought that the leftovers, paired with a bright colourway like Peacock or Lemongrass, would make a really fun striped baby surprise jacket, like this one

  1. Love them! The colors are very springy and cheerful! I've tried the short row heel because I like the way it looks, but found it fiddly too~~and I always have one side that gaps, do you have a solution for that???

  2. Have you tried the Fleegle heel? I love it for toe up socks, in fact it's all I use now.

  3. My very favourite heel to do if I'm feeling lazy is the afterthought heel. It takes virtually no remembering, and all you need is one little bit of scrap yarn worked into your miles and miles of stockinette.

  4. I love these! I've only made one pair of socks, and that was years ago. I still haven't given them another try. :(
