I originally designed this simple triangular shawl to use a special skein of handspun, then modified the size to use a full skein of multicoloured fingering weight yarn. The pattern is very simple, I combined a few of my favorite shawl construction elements, added some texture, a graphic border and voila! A shawl was born.
The handspun version used approx. 100g, 325 yds (yarn spun from Tanis Fiber Arts Superwash Merino Roving in 'Prism'.)
The fingering weight version used approx. 130g, 500 yds (100g, 400yds of main colour 'Meadow' and 30g, 100 yds of contrasting colour 'lemongrass' for border.)
Both were knit on 4mm (US 6) 24” circular needles.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this. I have had a great weekend knitting one using a purple Zauberball. Because you can see the full colour repeat on the ball its been absorbing to decide what to do next. Will post on Ravelry when its done, its going to be great.

ReplyDeleteSecond--I have tried on two computers and I can't get the border chart to open/enlarge or change. Is it stuck shrunken in cyber space, or is the internet faulty where I live this week? Thank you!
I have edited the eyelet row instructions to correct where it used to say "y1", it now says "k1". I am currently working on making the border chart enlarge, please bear with me!

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this beautiful pattern. What does one do on the even rows of the border? My guess is knit over the knits and purl over the purls, but is that correct? Even though I am an experienced knitter, I don't like working with charts. Do you have a text version of the border? I am sure there are others who would like that as well. Also the chart may have been easier to visualize if it was drawn from top to bottom rather than with row 1 on the bottom (for those of us that are "chart impaired".

I too am having a problem with the border. It looks by your pictures like you have knit the first row except for the yo's . But the pattern says do not knit . How do you do that?
ReplyDeleteThank You for letting this shawl be a free pattern. Read an article today economic reasons why patterns are free, but as a beginner I am glad for a free chance to further my knitting skills. I love the shawl, I hope mine will look a portion as nice.

ReplyDeleteAm having a problem with the border. Do you continue the yo before each of the three edge stitches and on each side of the centre stitch. The photos do not really show either of these areas once you start doing the border.

DeleteHi - I am presently knitting your Prism shawl. It is such a pretty shawl, and mine is coming out very nice, but I am down to the lace border now, and I am having an awful time trying to figure it out, I think I just can't understand the chart. I ripped it out so many times...I hope you can help me. On the first row of the lace chart, I did the K3, yo, to start the row the same as I did for the whole shawl...now what do I do as far as the chart goes.
